Kendal Weber was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister, Controlled Substances and Cannabis Branch (CSCB), Health Canada in January 2022. In this role, she is responsible for reducing and preventing the harms associated with a wide range of controlled drugs and other substances. Prior to joining CSCB, Kendal was the Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy Branch (SPB), Health Canada for two years. In that role, Kendal was responsible for health care system strategic policy, including policy for home and palliative care, mental health and strategic pharmaceutical management; federal-provincial/territorial relations; and Cabinet and Parliamentary Affairs. She also worked closely with health portfolio partners in the COVID-19 response, leading the creation of the COVID Task Force in January 2020. Prior to joining SPB, Kendal spent eight years in Health Products and Food Branch, as the Associate Assistant Deputy Minister from 2017 to 2020 and the Director General of Policy, Planning and International Affairs, from 2010-2015. In both positions, she played a key role in advancing legislative and regulatory policy for health products and food and establishing partnerships for international cooperation.
Prior to joining Health Canada, Kendal worked at the Privy Council Office, the Treasury Board Secretariat and the former Human Resources Development Canada in various policy roles. Kendal holds a Bachelor of Arts from Western University and a Master of Public Administration from Queen’s University
